There are many web-based companies that provide training for the Life in the UK Test. Most of them can be easily found on Google or Yahoo. How to pick the right one? And what are the differences between the training packages offered by these websites?
To make your decision easier, we compared 8 training websites. Because most of them offer different kinds of packages, to make the comparison easier we only analyzed their most inclusive ones, usually referred to as “Premium”, “Gold”, “Complete”, etc.
Training Providers: Comparison Chart
As you can see, offers vary significantly in prices (from £5.99 to £25, Lifeintheukonline.co.uk being the cheapest package). The amount of time that you can spend training is also a variable: some websites allow you 30 days, most – 90 days, and a few do not set a limit. Refunds are out of the question for most providers. PR refers to Page Rank: this is the way Google classifies all websites in the world, using a very complex technique. The higher the PageRank, the more important is this website deemed by Google. Britishtest.com has the highest PR in this list. Audio support (the ability to listen to the questions and answer options) is offered only by Britishness-test.co.uk and Cititest.com. 3 out of 8 websites offer the possibility to download a PDF file with practice questions, print it out and study on paper. Finally, two websites (strangely, the cheapest one and the most expensive one) do not include the text of the official manual in their package – everybody else does.
We didn’t compare the amount of sample questions available on each website, because there is no standard in what can be described a “question”; besides, some websites list absolutely mind-boggling numbers, (even 2000!), but without saying how “unique” their questions really are. As one of them says in the FAQ,
It makes it hard to establish which questions are unique and which are simply a re-shuffling of answer options or a mere re-wording; moreover, it’s not clear how a higher amount of questions can actually contribute to a better training.
